The Gator Swim Team is a self-supporting, nonprofit (501 (c) 3) organization. It is sanctioned by United State Swimming (USS) and competes in USS swim meets. The Gator’s program is funded through monthly dues, corporate donations and organized fund raising throughout the swim season. Expenses include pool rental, coaches’ salaries and travel expenditures to meets, team equipment, awards, newsletter and office costs. Due to the teams self-supporting status joining requires a good deal of parent involvement and support during the swim season (Sept-Aug). Gators encourage young people to meet their full potential in swimming in a friendly, professional environment that provides the opportunity to compete in local, state, and national meets. Swimmers are also encouraged to develop a joy in leading an active lifestyle and a desire to achieve and maintain their physical fitness. Parent volunteers run the Gator Swim Team. A Board of Directors including the offices of President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer, Secretary, and a Ways and Means Chair governs the team. There are committees that also assist in the team’s operations. No board position or committee member is provided financial reward. The team holds a general membership meeting inviting all parents of registered swimmers every November where board positions and policy changes are voted on, a budget is approved, and goals are set. Parents are also encouraged to attend the monthly board meetings. |
